Our last trip to a Japanese steak house reminded us why we cook more at home. We had high hopes of a wonderful meal only to be disappointed by a bland dinner that digs deep into the pocket. All too often the experience of having a meal cooked by others doesn’t end up nearly as good as you would expect it to be, so finding a better alternative at home is big plus. We often make this chicken with some fried rice and sauteed vegetables, but it would work great as a main course with any other sides.
I prefer to use tenders for this recipe, but I do like removing as much of the inner tendon as possible. Then cut them into bite size chunks. Doing this instead of cooking whole, allows more surface area to hold all the flavor.
There are two key ingredients to make this grilled chicken taste better than any other type. First roasted garlic butter and second a dark soy sauce. While you could use regular butter or regular soy sauce it is highly recommended you take the extra effort to use the ingredients recommended. I promise you the flavor you get from those two items will set your cooking on a whole other level. If you like the Hibachi style you should also check out the steak version. We usually do a little of both and serve it with fried rice and sauteed vegetables. Try it out and Enjoy!
Hibachi Style Grilled Chicken
- Flat grill
- 8 each Chicken tenders
- 2 tbsp garlic butter use recipe linked on blog
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1-2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- Cut chicken tenders into bite size pieces removing any skin. Preheat a flat top grill or cast-iron skillet. (The flattop will help prevent too much moisture staying around the chicken.) Place chicken on grilling surface and sprinkle with a mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Add the garlic butter and stir chicken around allowing the butter to melt all over each piece of meat. When chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165'F drizzle dark soy sauce over the top and stir around thoroughly coating each piece. Allow to brown lightly then remove from heat and Enjoy!
